TCNJ started the season last weekend with three games, dropping its season opener to Penn State Abington on Saturday before losing both ends of a doubleheader against No. 7 Salisbury.
Felipes' Fast Start
Despite the 0-3 start to the season, there were several bright spots for the Lions, especially if your name was J. Felipe. On the offensive side,
Jack Felipe leads TCNJ with a .364 batting average. He hit safely in all three games last weekend, including going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the second game at Salisbury.
On the hill,
Joseph Felipe pitched 3.2 innings of relief in that second game at Salisbury, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. The Sea Gulls hit just .167 against him, and Felipe's 0.55 WHIP lead TCNJ hurlers.
First Homers
Chris Cote and
Cameron Cane each hit their first career TCNJ homers last weekend. Cote homered in the season opener at Penn State Abington, a game where he went 2-for-3. Cote is batting .300 on the young season with a .600 slugging percentage.
Cane homered in the fourth inning of game two at Salisbury, cutting the Sea Gulls' lead to 4-3 at the time. Cane is also off to a fast start with a .714 slugging percentage and a .400 on-base percentage for a team-leading 1.114 OPS. His three RBIs in the first three games also lead the team.
Home Cookin'
George Ackerman Park has been pretty friendly to TCNJ over the years. In the last five seasons (2016-20), the Lions are 50-10 at home, good for an .833 winning percentage. TCNJ last hosted Ramapo in 2018, sweeping a doubleheader. The Lions have won seven of their last nine games against Ramapo overall.
