EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team wrapped up another NJAC Championship on Saturday afternoon, extending the nation's longest active conference winning streak across any sport in all three NCAA Divisions to 38 seasons. The Lions topped Stockton 5-0 to claim the championship match in the first-ever NJAC Tournament. The Lions remained unbeaten, improving to 10-0 on the season, while the Ospreys fell to 6-2 with both losses coming at the hands of TCNJ.
The Lions got off to a strong start in doubles play.
Alexa Vasile and
Chase Eisenberg scored the opening point of the match with an 8-1 win at number three. At second doubles,
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells followed with an 8-1 win as well. Locked in a tight match at number one,
Liya Davidov and
Katrine Luddy led 6-5 before winning the final two games to secure the win.
The Lions made quick work of singles play. At number six, Vasile ended points quickly and cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win. The race was then on for the championship clinching point.
Anusha Rangu dropped a game early in the first set, but found a rhythm late in the first set and carried the momentum through a perfect second set to secure the match and the championship. Roarty, Davidov, and Eisenberg were each up a set when action was halted.
The Lions now earn the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The team will find out its first opponent in an NCAA.com press release on Monday.
