HAVERFORD Pa. – The No. 9 TCNJ women's soccer team returned to the pitch for its first match in 655 days on Saturday. The Lions came out with a 3-0 victory over Albright in the first game of the Haverford College Kickoff Classic.
TCNJ came out of the gate fast and scored a pair of goals in the first eight minutes.
Amelia Curtis found the back of the net four minutes in for the first goal of the season. Just about three minutes later, TCNJ struck again with an
Emma Pascarella goal. The junior transfer was set up by
Julia Obst, and she beat the keeper for her first goal with the Lions.
The Lions scored again with the first half winding down by a
Lindsay O'Keefe goal. O'Keefe scored 41 minutes into the first half off an assist by
Gianna Minerva.
The three-goal lead proved to be more than enough for TCNJ's defense to hold, as the Lions limited Albright to just one shot on the afternoon. That translated to a 36-1 advantage in shots for TCNJ along with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
In net for TCNJ was
Alexandra Panasuk and
Corrine Byrum who combined for the shutout. Panasuk went the first 60 minutes and earned her first win of the year.
TCNJ returns to action to face Haverford at noon tomorrow.
