Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Eric Yang

Field Hockey Beats Gettysburg, 3-2

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The TCNJ field hockey team beat Gettysburg, 3-2, on the road Tuesday afternoon as the team wrapped up nonconference play.

The Lions (7-5) used a dominant offensive first half in which they held a 10-3 edge in shots taken and a 6-2 advantage on penalty corners to jump out to a big two-goal lead over the Bullets (2-10). Overall, TCNJ held a commanding 16-10 shots advantage and a 10-7 corners edge in the game.

Sophomore Carly Cole got TCNJ on the board first when she received a pass from senior Jess Hatch on a penalty corner for the score, putting the Lions up early just 6:26 minutes into the match.

Three minutes later, fellow sophomore Rayhanah Ahmed added on to TCNJ's lead when she drove downfield solo on the left side after an outlet pass, before splitting two Gettysburg defenders for the shoot and score from the center of the shooting circle.

The Bullets responded early in the second quarter in identical fashion. After Jenna Vadinsky received an outlet pass at midfield, she drove downfield uncontested into the Lions shooting circle before launching the ball past the reach of TCNJ goalie Dani Britton. Her goal cut the Lions lead in half 2:35 seconds into the quarter.

Lions immediately pushed the lead back up one minute later, after junior Sophia Foschini tapped in an uncontested goal off a pass from Cole on a penalty corner.

The goal proved critical in the second half, as Vadinsky struck again with under two minutes left in the third period to cut the Lions lead once again down to one. However, the Bullets were unable to score the equalizer in the final frame as Britton blanked all three shot attempts in the period.

For the Lions, Cole finished with a career-high five shots. Hatch finished with four shots of her own. Ahmed and Foschini saw all five of their combined shots be on target. Britton finished with seven saves.

TCNJ returns home Saturday to host visiting William Paterson. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
