Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Eric Yang

Cole, Field Hockey Soars Past Ospreys 5-0

EWING, N.J. – Led by a dominant offense, the TCNJ field hockey team extended its win streak to five games following a 5-0 shutout home victory against Stockton Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions (9-5, 3-1 NJAC) scored early in the game on offense and never let up, outshooting the Ospreys (6-8, 0-5) by a margin of 22-3 in the game, while holding a 5-1 edge in penalty corners.

Sophia Foschini struck first for TCNJ just 2:22 into the match, tapping in a pass from Jess Hatch on the left side of the cage which soared past the reach of the Stockton goalie.

Three minutes into the second period, Rayhanah Ahmed tacked on the second goal of the match for the Lions in a solo effort that saw her launch the ball into the back of the cage from right at the top of the shooting circle.

The Lions entered halftime with 11 total shots and four penalty corners, while not allowing a single shot on the other end of the field for the Ospreys.

The third quarter saw two quick scores by TCNJ within the first six minutes of the second half. Carly Cole struck first from the left side of the cage after receiving a pinpoint cross from Rayhanah Ahmed.

Sophie Popp scored three minutes later on a penalty corner, pushing TCNJ's lead to 4-0 with her fourth goal of the year.

With a little over three minutes left in the game, Cole scored her second goal of the game off a rebound of her previous shot that was deflected by the Stockton goalie. The score marked her fourth multi-goal game of the year, and a team-leading ninth overall goal.

Cole finished the game with a team-high eight shots and five shots on goal. Ahmed put up five shots, with four on target.

In addition to the win streak, TCNJ now has won six of the past seven games. The team also has notched seven total shutout wins on the year.

The Lions will visit Ramapo this Saturday for the final road trip of the 2022 regular season. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start time.
