JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Gianna Minerva scored twice and Corinne Byrum recorded her second-straight shutout as the No. 18 TCNJ women's soccer team defeated New Jersey City, 3-0, in an NJAC road game on Saturday afternoon.
The game was scoreless until Minerva broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute. She scored that goal on an assist from Gianna Coppola. Just 23 seconds before halftime, Minerva scored again on a pass from Ivonne Vasquez to make it 2-0.
Coppola netted her eighth goal of the season in the 67th minute after a feed from Emma Pascarella.
Byrum has now held opponents scoreless for the previous 209:20 as the Lions were in a scoreless draw with Rowan on Wednesday before Saturday's shutout win.
The Lions outshot NJCU, 27-7, led by Coppola's six shots. Ella Van Dine had three shots, and a handful of players had two shots apiece.
Minerva's two goals move her into fifth on the team with six. TCNJ hasn't allowed a goal to New Jersey City since 2011.
The Lions conclude the regular season slate on Wednesday when they host Rutgers-Camden at 6 p.m.
