Wrestling in 3rd Place After Day 1 of New Standard Invitational

YORK, PA.- The TCNJ wrestling team sent 10 wrestlers to the quarter-finals and six to the semi-finals in the first day of the 13th annual New Standard Invitational at York College on Friday afternoon.
 
Ryan Rosenthal (125), Domenic Difrancescantonio (141), Mike Conklin (149), Nick Sacco (165), Matt Surich (165) and Reid Colella (174) all reached the semi-finals of their respective weight classes on Friday. The Lions all together put up a total of 44 team points, slotting them in third place out of 14 teams and just a few points behind Johnson & Wales (50) and Ithaca (52).  

Averett barely trails TCNJ with a total of 43 team points. Just behind them is Stevens with a total of 35.5 team points. Brockport and The Merchant Marine Academy are the next two teams in sixth and seventh with 31 and 27 team points respectively.
 
Rosenthal enjoyed a first-round bye then took care of Averett's Daniel Markulo by a score of 9-2 to advance to the semis. He then defeated Ursinus' Terry Adams with riding time after they turned a 1-1 tie to a 2-2 finish after the three overtime periods.
 
Difrancescantonio also enjoyed a first-round bye followed by two consecutive pins over Johnson & Wales' Zach Weiner and Marymount's Mateo Hernandez to earn a spot in the semi-finals at 141 lbs.
 
Conklin after a first-round bye pinned Mahmoud Esa of Brockport then won by tech fall against Thomas DiResta of Johnson & Wales to earn his way to the semi-finals on Saturday.
 
Nick Sacco earned his way to the semi-finals with a pin against Tyler Mangan of York and then two decision wins over Harrison Kelly of Johnson & Wales (9-2) and Patrick Wisneiwski of Johnson and Wales (2-1)
 
Surich joins Sacco in the semi-finals at 165 lbs. with a first-round bye followed by a tech fall win over Ithaca's Brian Bienus (18-3) and a decision win over Christian Murphy of Johnson & Wales (9-6).
 
Colella was only on the mat for a total of a minute and 35 seconds on Friday en route to the semi-finals with pins of Jared Zenie of Brockport (1:13) and Preston Hass of the Merchant Marine Academy (0:22).
 
TCNJ wrestling is back on the mat bright and early on Saturday morning with semi-final action starting at 9:30.
