QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The TCNJ women's tennis team gave Division I Lafayette a stern test before dropping a 6-1 decision in the Lions' second match in as many days.
Anusha Rangu picked up the lone victory of the afternoon for the Lions (2-1), who were less than 24 hours removed from defeating Division II University of the Sciences.
Chase Eisenberg and
Alexa Vasile gave the Leopards the biggest scare in doubles, conceding a hard-fought 6-4 decision on the No. 2 court.
TCNJ held its own in singles competition, where one match went its way and two others were settled by super breakers. Rangu downed Eleanor Campbell, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 4 to get the Lions on the board.
Morgan Grimmie came up just short in a 2-6, 6-3, 10-2 battle at No. 6, and
Aira Abalos was a point away from victory at No. 2 before Lafayette's Maureen McCormack managed to edge out a 3-6, 7-5, 11-9 thriller.
The women's tennis team returns to action next Sunday with a home match against Oneonta.
