EWING, N.J. – With a newly-minted national ranking in tow, the TCNJ women's tennis team validated its lofty standing with a 9-0 blanking of Washington College in non-conference action at the Rec Center on Friday night.
Slotted at No. 40 in the latest ITA Division III rankings, which came out one day prior, the Lions extended their winning streak to three matches with a convincing performance against a Shorewomen side that was picked to finish as a playoff team in the competitive Centennial Conference.
Alexa Vasile and
Chase Eisenberg got the Lions started with an 8-2 victory over Piper Sartison and Maria Cristina Diaz-Nazario at No. 2 doubles, and
Anusha Rangu and
Aira Abalos were close behind with an 8-3 result over Katie Ruppert and Bin Nguyen at No. 3.
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells, ranked 14
th in the nation, held off a talented duo of Irene Meng and Alisha White for an 8-5 decision on the top doubles court.
TCNJ was ruthless in singles play, only conceding 11 total games across the five contested courts. Roarty headlined the individual effort with a 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel of Meng, the reigning Centennial player of the week.
Eisenberg was an easy 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 5, and Rangu topped Nguyen by a 6-0, 6-2 score line.
Abalos downed White, 6-3, 6-2, and Vasile took the first set, 6-3, before Sartison retired.
TCNJ puts its ranking to the test against No. 28 NYU tomorrow.
