Box Score EWING, N.J. – The No. 40 TCNJ women's tennis team passed its first big test of the spring with flying colors, sweeping doubles play on the way to a 7-2 victory over 28
th-ranked NYU on Saturday inside the Rec Center.
After waiting out a 90-minute delay as the Rec Center lost power, the Lions (6-1) stretched their winning streak to four consecutive matches with an impressive non-conference result.
Alexa Vasile and
Chase Eisenberg got TCNJ started on the right foot with an 8-1 rout of Phoebe Su and Jamaica Buyse at No. 2 doubles.
Anusha Rangu and
Aira Abalos were close behind with an 8-3 defeat of Ana Leonard and Lynn Robinson at No. 3, and
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells sealed the sweep with an 8-5 victory over Karina Jensrud and Jimena Menendez on the top court.
Jensrud put the Violets (0-3) on the board with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Roarty at No. 1, but TCNJ wasted little time putting the match away from there.
Vasile edged out two close sets with Emily Baxter, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 before Rangu clinched the victory with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 defeat of Su at No. 4.
Abalos conceded a hard-fought match to Menendez at No. 2, 6-3, 5-7, 10-5.
Eisenberg and
Morgan Grimmie closed out the match with pro-set wins over Leonard (8-5) and Robinson (8-4) on the number five and six courts, respectively.
The Lions take on another nationally ranked opponent when No. 25 Swarthmore comes to Ewing on March 26.
