Women's Tennis Takes Inside Track With Win at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team grabbed the inside track to the top seed and hosting rights for the NJAC Championship Tournament with an 8-1 victory at Stockton on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions (10-2, 3-0) removed all the drama of the rematch of last year's NJAC championship match early, storming out to a quick sweep of doubles play and never looking back.

Alexa Vasile reached 50 career wins for the Lions, hitting the milestone on an 8-7 (2) tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles alongside Chase Eisenberg. The TCNJ duo handed Stockton's Elena Nunez and Audrey van Schalwyk their first dual loss of the season.

Aira Abalos and Anusha Rangu grabbed a quick 8-1 victory over Brynn Bowman and Sophia Pasquale at No. 3 doubles. Charlotte Roarty and Jenny Landells followed with a 8-3 defeat of Sarb Devi and Lily Muir on the top court, leaving the third court to play out a nip-and-tuck affair that required a tiebreaker to decide it. Eisenberg and Vasile were nails in the breaker, pulling away early for a 7-2 triumph.

Roarty and Abalos were dominant on the top two singles courts. Roarty notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Muir at No. 1, and Abalos was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Devi at No. 2.

Landells, playing just her third singles match of the season, was nearly flawless in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Kierstyn Fenimore at No. 6. Eisenberg had few issues handling van Schalwyk by a 6-2, 6-1 score line in the fifth singles flight.

Rangu emerged a 7-6 (2), 6-3 winner from a tight matchup with Pasquale at No. 4 singles.

Vasile took the first set from Nunez, 6-3, at No. 3 singles but was forced to retire down 3-1 in the second as the Ospreys grabbed their lone point of the day.

The Lions continue NJAC play at Kean on Tuesday, April 19.
