EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team put a bow on another undefeated NJAC campaign with a pair of convincing shutout wins over William Paterson and Ramapo in a double feature on Friday.
Navya Yemula won all four of her matches on her Senior Day, pulling to within 50 overall victories for her career.
With the twin victories, the Lions (13-2, 6-0) ensured their all-time unbeaten record in conference play will continue and locked up the top seed in next week's NJAC Championship Tournament. TCNJ will host the No. 4 seed – the winner of tomorrow's match between Rutgers-Camden and Kean – in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon to kick off the second edition of the championship tournament format.
TCNJ needed little more than an hour to finish off a 9-0 sweep of William Paterson. The Lions dropped only one game the entire match – in Yemula's first set at No. 6 singles.
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells were 8-0 winners at No. 1 doubles, while
Aira Abalos and
Anusha Rangu matched that score at No. 2. Yemula played with
Chase Eisenberg at No. 3.
Roarty (No. 1), Abalos (No. 2), Rangu (No. 3), Eisenberg (No. 4), and
Morgan Grimmie were all 6-0, 6-0 winners in singles, with Yemula making her season singles debut in a 6-1, 6-0 rout at No. 6.
TCNJ went right back to work against Ramapo, meeting slightly more resistance but still conceding only four total games with no sets going beyond 6-1. The doubles teams and results were the same, with all three courts posting 8-0 shutouts.
Roarty won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, with Abalos taking the second flight by the same score. Rangu and Eisenberg each produced 6-0, 6-0 double-bagels at third and fourth, respectively.
Landells moved up to No. 5 singles for the first time this spring and cruised 6-1, 6-0, while Yemula capped her Senior Day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
Roarty reached a couple of milestones on Friday, eclipsing both 75 overall wins and 40 doubles victories for her career.
The Lions wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a match at nationally ranked Haverford.
Rangu moved to within one win of 50 for her career, and Landells is just two victories away from that mark.
