Box Score AMHERST, MASS. – The No. 38 TCNJ women's tennis team continued its long streak of success in NCAA Tournament openers with a dominating 5-0 shutout of Nazareth in a first-round match in the Amherst regional on Friday morning.
The Lions conceded just five games in the entire match, and only three in the five courts that counted, in winning an NCAA first-round contest for the 15
th consecutive season. TCNJ will take on No. 6 Tufts in Saturday's second round.
Alexa Vasile and
Chase Eisenberg at No. 2 joined
Aira Abalos and
Anusha Rangu at No. 3 with 8-0 doubles shutouts, and
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells quickly polished off the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Aliya Guzman and Claire Pullen on the No. 1 court.
Eisenberg quickly blanked Caroline Keegan, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles before Rangu sealed the Lions' victory with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Katelyn Spath at No. 4.
Landells was one game away from winning her match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles when Rangu converted match point. Abalos led 6-0, 3-0 at No. 2, Vasile was up 6-1, 3-0 at No. 3, and Roarty held a 6-1, 1-0 advantage on Guzman at No. 1.
The Lions now look to pull an upset of the Jumbos, who come in ranked 6
th in the nation and 3
rd in the Northeast Region. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
