CHAMPS! Lacrosse Rolls Past Rowan for 11th Straight NJAC Title

EWING, N.J. – Between multiple major milestones and yet another NJAC championship, the TCNJ women's lacrosse team brought plenty of its own sunshine to another dreary afternoon.

Jennifer LaRocca registered her 100th career assist as part of an eight-point day, Anna Devlin scored four first-half goals and broke the single-season record for draw controls, and the 7th-ranked Lions handled second-seeded Rowan, 18-3, for their 11th consecutive conference crown.

Ally Tobler piled up six goals and an assist and Anna Wright chipped in with two goals to help TCNJ (15-2) secure the league's automatic NCAA qualifying berth. The Lions will learn their matchups and possible hosting assignment in an NCAA selection show on Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Julia Charest was sensational between the pipes, racking up eight saves – including five in the first quarter to help the Lions build a big lead.

The Profs (10-8) were on the front foot early, taking seven of the game's first ten shots, but thanks to the brilliance of Charest between the pipes they had nothing to show for it. The sophomore racked up five stops in the first quarter alone, including two on free-position attempts and another on a kick-save that directly led to the Lions' second goal. The ball bounced well out toward midfield where it was picked up by Tobler, who sprinted the other way and fed Devlin for a quick-strike tally.

Larissa Hatzold then ignited a stretch of three goals in 100 seconds with a free-position bouncer, and 33 seconds later Tobler went right down the lane for her first of the day.

LaRocca's milestone assist came on a trademark feed in traffic to Tobler, who caught it and fired in one motion to stretch the lead to five and make LaRocca the fourth player in program history with 100 career assists. The senior got on the board herself for good measure with a top-shelf laser that made it 6-0 TCNJ with 56.5 seconds left in the frame.

The onslaught continued into the second, with the Lions extending the lead to 10-0 before the Profs got on the board with 22 seconds in the first half.

Tobler completed her first-half hat-trick with a bouncer through the goalie's legs on a free position shot, then Wright converted one of her own through contact. Devlin then potted back-to-back tallies 35 seconds apart, the second on a remarkable catch and series of moves at the left post before plugging the corner of the cage to make it 10-0 just past the halfway point of the frame.

Charest's brilliant play also continued on with a pair of point-blank saves and some help from the pipes before Molly Green finally put Rowan on the board in the waning seconds of the first half.

LaRocca took over in the third quarter, scoring three of the Lions' four goals. She found the back of the cage on a scoop shot to the lower right corner to make it 12-2 just shy of the 10-minute mark and, after Tobler netted a free-position bouncer, LaRocca faked a shot and stuck the actual attempt into the right corner for a 14-2 advantage.
Wright scored on a feed from LaRocca early in the fourth, and LaRocca found a cutting Tobler for a 16-3 lead with 5:32 to play. Tobler wheeled around defenders and fired another shot past the Rowan goalie before LaRocca capped the scoring with her fifth goal of the afternoon in the closing seconds.

Jillian Westerby compiled a game-high seven draw controls and dished out two assists, while Devlin produced six draws and Sabrina Phillips had five. TCNJ held an 18-6 advantage in the circle to go with a 29-15 edge in shots.

Madison Wernik and Kileigh Pfluger each caused a pair of turnovers.

Tobler (2-for-2) and Devlin (2-for-2) helped TCNJ go a perfect 6-for-6 on free-position shots.
