CLINTON, N.Y. – Jenny Landells and
Charlotte Roarty put themselves on the precipice of a return trip to nationals with a pair of victories at the ITA Northeast Regional championship on Saturday at Hamilton.
Landells and Roarty advanced to the semifinals with a pair of hard-won victories, moving to within one match of a trip to the championship match and an automatic berth into the ITA national doubles championship. The TCNJ tandem were runners-up at regionals a year ago and won a match at the ITA Cup.
The Lions started their morning with an 8-4 defeat of Drew's Mary Kalorin and Sofiya Lebedeva. They faced Josephine Libby and Sanjana Karnam of Rochester in the quarterfinals, ultimately prevailing by an 8-5 decision.
Sunday's semifinal pits Landells and Roarty against No. 2 seed Dakota Fordham and Ida Krause of NYU. It's a familiar foe for the Lions, who lost 8-5 to the Violets duo last weekend at TCNJ's home invitational.
Anusha Rangu and
Aira Abalos fell one match short of the semifinals, knocking off a team from Union before bowing out to Nicole Ridenour and Lorna Flores Gonzalez of RPI in the quarterfinals. Ridenour and Flores had previously eliminated TCNJ teammates
Alexa Vasile and
Chase Eisenberg in the early morning session.
Landells and Roarty go for a spot in the regional final Sunday at 10 a.m.
