EWING, N.J. – The No. 17 TCNJ field hockey team extended their winning streak to six games after a dominant 6-1 victory against Ramapo Wednesday afternoon.
The junior duo of
Rayhanah Ahmed and
Claire Engebreth each recorded two goals and an assist apiece to lead an unrelenting Lions (9-3, 3-0 NJAC) offense that erupted for four second half goals to pull away from the Roadrunners (3-8, 0-1 NJAC). The win extends the Lions series streak to 19 consecutive victories against Ramapo since 2004.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Mackenzie Hart struck first for the Lions just 94 seconds into the game off a pinpoint pass from Ahmed on an early penalty corner.
- The Roadrunners struck back with the equalizer in the sixth minute as Victoria Chavez found the back of the cage on a penalty corner. The goal marks the first score by Ramapo against TCNJ since the 2006 season, when the Roadrunners scored a pair in a 6-2 loss.
- In the eighth minute, Ahmed once again put the Lions on top on a leaning shot untouched by the Ramapo defense. The junior's first goal of the game came off a feed from Carly Cole.
- After a defensive heavy second quarter in which both teams combined for just a pair of shots, TCNJ began the second half ramping up the offensive pressure. In the 35th minute, Bella DiNardo notched her third goal of the season in solo fashion after easily navigating her way past the Ramapo defense and into the center of the shooting circle. Five minutes later, Engebreth replicated with a similar drive and score of her own, with her goal coming off an assist from DiNardo.
- In the 44th minute, Ahmed found the back of the cage for the second time off a well-placed dish from Engebreth for the blue and gold's fifth goal of the game.
- Engebreth rounded out TCNJ's scoring in the 55th minute on a centering pass from Cole that found her stick at the top of the shooting circle.
