ROME, Ga. – Matthew Michibata ended his ITA Cup experience on a high note on Saturday, handling Wisconsin-Whitewater's Luke VanDonslear 6-1, 6-3 in his third and final singles match at the Rome Tennis Center.
Michibata had dropped his first two matches, but rebounded nicely with a resounding defeat of VanDonslear, who plays No. 1 singles for NJAC rival Wisconsin-Whitewater. With the victory, Michibata finished 13
th at the fall national championships.

Harrison Maitland-Carter found themselves on the wrong side of another third-set super breaker in the doubles championship, this time falling 10-6 in the decisive tiebreak to Carnegie Mellon's Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong; on Thursday, the Lions' duo lost an 11-9 heartbreaker to a pairing from Tufts.
Trailing 2-1 and on serve when play resumed on Saturday, Michibata and Maitland-Carter came up with a 6-4 decision in the first set before Jangbahadur and Kong countered with a 7-5 score in the second set to force the winner-take-all super tiebreak.
Michibata and Maitland-Carter wrapped up the fall national championships in 13
th place after going 0-2 with two razor-thin losses.
Saturday concludes the fall portion of the schedule for TCNJ men's tennis. The Lions will return to action in February.
