EWING, N.J. - The No. 10 TCNJ women's soccer team had its eight-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night in a 1-0 home loss to Rowan.
Â
It marked only the second time this season that the Lions (11-2-1, 6-1) were unable to dent the scoreboard as the Profs (11-0-2, 6-0-1) were solid on the defensive end all game and took over sole possession of first place in the NJAC with two league contests remaining.Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The best chance of the half for the Lions came in the 11th minute on a free kick from just outside the right corner of the box. Ava Curtis sent a shot towards the top left corner of the net that was saved by the Rowan keeper.
- The Lions had two more shots on goal in the first half coming in the 18th, 29th and the 38th from Sophie Vieira, Victoria D'Imperio, and Rachel Burkhard.
- In the 74th, Rowan struck first after Sarah Bergan settled a cross in the box and shot to the bottom right corner of the net.
- The best chance to find the equalizer came near the end of regulation on a corner kick from Emma Pascarella that was headed by D'Imperio and kept off the line by a Rowan defender. Players from both teams swarmed the net and Rowan somehow blocked the second shot to force another corner.
NOTES
- This marks only the second time all season that the Lions were shut out. The Profs managed to keep a clean sheet despite having to withstand a 20-5 deficit in the shot department.Â
- D'Imperio led the Lions with five shots while Alyssa Alfano, Curtis, Pascarella and Vieira each had three.
- TCNJ, which entered tonight as the fourth ranked team in shots on goal per game with 13.23, was held to six for the game.
