Women's Soccer Handles NJCU on Senior Day

EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ women's soccer team got back in the win column on Saturday on Senior Day with a 3-1 win over NJCU.

The Lions (12-2-1, 7-1) played a scoreless first half with the Gothic Knights (6-6-4, 2-2-3) but then exploded for three goals in fifteen minutes to pull away with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lions controlled first half possession, winning the shots battle 8-1 in the half but with no great chances at goal.
  • The Lions struck first in the 59th on a free kick just outside the box from Allie O'Keefe that Rachel Burkhard headed into the top left corner of the net.
  • TCNJ wasted no time extending their lead as Victoria D'Imperio netted her 16th goal of the year in the 69th on a nice pass into the box from Rachel Robichaud.
  • In the 74th, Alyssa Alfano sent a rocket just under the crossbar on a pass from Taylor Bielan to bring the Lions ahead 3-0.
  • NJCU found the net in the 81st on a free kick just outside the net to cut the TCNJ lead to two. The Lions held out for the last nine minutes to secure the 3-1 win.
NOTES:
  • This is the first goal that NJCU has scored on TCNJ since 2011.
  • The win clinches at least the second seed and a home NJAC Semifinal match for the Lions. They can take first from Rowan if they drops points in either of their next two matchups.
  • Senior Claudia Flint earned her first career start on Senior Day.
  • The assist for Robichaud on Saturday marks her first points of the season.
  • The assist for Bielan was the first for her career as a Lion.
  • O'Keefe posted her second assist of the season.
