Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Eric Yang

No. 17 Field Hockey Falls to No. 5 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 TCNJ Field Hockey team fell on the road, 4-0, to No. 5 Salisbury on Saturday afternoon.

A strong defensive effort kept the Lions (9-5) in the game throughout the first three quarters, before the Sea Gulls (11-3) pulled away late in the fourth quarter to secure the ranked victory on their Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore goalie Brigitte Racey and the Lions defense matched the home team's intensity in the first quarter after neutralizing four Salisbury penalty corners, with Racey recording three early saves to keep the Sea Gulls off the board.
  • The second period followed the same trend, as the Lions defense continued to swarm a relentless Salisbury attack in an effort to prevent any goals. The defensive effort was punctuated by a remarkable Racey save on a penalty stroke nine minutes into the quarter.
  • However, Salisbury finally broke through with less than 90 seconds left in the half on a goal from McKenna Horner.
  • In the third quarter, Horner once again struck towards the end of the quarter, this time securing the insurance goal with 57 seconds to go in the period.
  • Salisbury fully pulled away in the fourth, doubling its lead over the Lions after a pair of goals in a two minute span.
STANDOUT LIONS
  • Racey finished with nine saves, including the second penalty stroke stop of her career.
  • Sophomore Emily Dvorsky recorded the third defensive save of her career.
NOTES
  • Both teams combined for five green cards and three yellow cards in today's match.
