Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | James Schuld

Champs! No. 15 Women's Soccer Wins NJAC Title 2-0 Against No. 10 Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J.- The No.15 TCNJ women's soccer team claimed the NJAC Championship and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament on Friday night with an impressive 2-0 victory against No. 10 Rowan University.

Securing the 21st title in program history, the Lions (15-2-1) avenged their lone NJAC defeat while also handing the Profs (14-1-2) their first loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lions struck first in the 16th on an Emma Pascarella cross from just outside the box on the right side that Victoria D'Imperio headed into the bottom left corner of the net to put TCNJ ahead 1-0.
  • The best chance of the half for the Profs materialized from a set piece launched from about 40 yards out on the right side, which found its way to just outside the crease. Bella Norman made arguably the save of the year with her left foot, and the ball was cleared out of harm's way by Ava Curtis.
  • The Blue & Gold back line held strong throughout the second half as many of the Rowan opportunities were squandered by the likes of Curtis, Rachel Robichaud, Rachel Burkhard and Caroline Rebele.
  • TCNJ sealed the deal in the final seconds on a broken play as the Rowan keeper came out of the net to clear the ball out. Pascarella won possession from the keeper, made a move left and sent a shot right down the middle of the empty net.

NOTES:
  • The Lions have won five out of the last six NJAC Championships.
  • Pascarella was sensational on the evening with her ninth goal and 15th assist of the season.
  • Victoria D'Imperio netted her 18th goal of the season.
  • The finals matchup had no shortage of physicality as there were three yellows handed out on the night.

UP NEXT:
  • TCNJ women's soccer will find out its first-round opponent and game time/ location for during the NCAA Selection on Monday at 1:30 PM. The NCAA Tournament is set to start next Saturday.
