GLASSBORO, N.J. – The No. 22 TCNJ field hockey team fell 3-0 in the NJAC Championship game to No. 17 Rowan on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (11-8) put up a stellar defensive effort through the first three quarters, limiting the Profs (11-7) to just a lone goal as sophomore
Brigitte Racey recorded nine saves, before the home team ultimately pulled away in the title game's final period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a quiet first quarter that saw both teams combined for just two shots and one penalty corner, the Profs struck first two minutes into the second period on a goal from Madison Dubois to the lower right corner.
- The Lions attempted to answer with the equalizer, with shot attempts from Rayhanah Ahmed in the 21st minute and Isabel Maher in the 22nd minute that both went wide.
- Looking to score an insurance goal, the Profs put up 10 shots and generated six penalty corner opportunities in the third. However excellent goalkeeping from Racey kept the Profs offense at bay, as the sophomore recorded seven saves in the period to keep the deficit to just a single score heading into the final frame.
- However, the Profs found their insurance four minutes into the fourth quarter on a goal from just inside the shooting circle by Sidney Pavlishin. Three minutes later, Rowan tacked on their third score of the match from Cienna Bosher to effectively seal the match.
STANDOUT LIONS
- Racey finished with the game with ten saves, her second consecutive in the double digits
- DiNardo finished with three shots, one being on goal.
