ALLENTOWN, PA.- The TCNJ wrestling team had seven wrestlers standing on their respective podiums at the Mideast Futures Tournament at Muhlenberg on Sunday. Three lions took first, two came in second place and two more finished third.

Connor Doherty (157),
Alex Strashinsky (165) and
Chris Stavrou (285) all went undefeated on Sunday on their way to tournament wins. Nick Acque (157) and
Demetrius Ruiz (184) fell just short in their championship bouts while Chris Baker (197) suffered a loss earlier in the tournament and crawled all the way back to a third-place finish in the consolation bracket.

Doherty and Acque had their way with the 157 lb. bracket before meeting in the championship bout. Just under one minute into the second period, Doherty pinned his teammate to claim first place. On Sunday, Doherty had two wins by technical fall and one by pinfall.

Strashinsky put on a show on Sunday, winning by pinfall in the quarter and semifinals. In the championship, he carried out an impressive 9-5 decision win over James Snyder of Stevens.

Stavrou, after receiving a bye, had a decision win followed by a pin of Austin Stewart of McDaniel. He faced off against Andrew Franklin of Muhlenberg in the championship bout where he wrestled his way to an 8-4 decision victory.

Demetrius Ruiz pinned two of his opponents in the four matches prior to the championship bout. Ruiz dropped the championship bout in an exciting 2-1 decision victory for Nick Bell of NYU.

After receiving a bye, Baker lost his first matchup before rattling off four wins in a row and taking third place out of the consolation bracket. In the third-place matchup, Baker made quick work of Paul Parise of Muhlenberg, pinning him just one minute and nine seconds into the bout.

TCNJ Wrestling will head up to Ithaca, New York this Friday for the NCAA Mideast Regional Tournament with the action kicking off at 11 AM.
