EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team made short work of visiting William Smith on Friday night, needing less than two hours to sweep a 9-0 non-conference shutout.
The win marked the fourth straight sweep for the Lions (5-1), who will enjoy a well-earned two-week break before taking on nationally ranked NYU on March 25.
Anusha Rangu and
Aira Abalos got the hosts off to a quick start with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, and
Alexa Vasile and
Chase Eisenberg quickly followed with a matching score line at No. 2.
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells capped off the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win on the top court.
Singles was no more competitive, though Roarty was taken to a second-set tiebreak at No. 1, which she promptly won without conceding a point.
Abalos rolled past her number two singles foe by a 6-2, 6-2 margin to clinch the win, and Vasile notched a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Rangu put up a double-bagel at No. 4 before Eisenberg (8-2) and Landells (8-4) won pro sets at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
