EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team resumed spring competition with an 8-1 loss to No. 25 NYU on Saturday.
Moved indoors due to the rain, the Lions (5-2) got a singles win from
Jenny Landells and gave the highly touted Violets a battle on two of the three doubles courts in their first action in two weeks.
After Landells and
Charlotte Roarty fell by an 8-2 count to Dakota Fordham and Ida Krause (both multiple-time All-Americans),
Aira Abalos and
Anusha Rangu pushed Jimena Menendez and Karina Jensurd to an 8-5 decision at No. 3.
Chase Eisenberg and
Alexa Vasile came within a whisker of taking down Molly Heber and Aditi Narayan at No. 2, but their NYU counterparts managed to eke out a tight 8-7 (6) tiebreaker.
Roarty gave Krause, also an All-American in singles, all she could handle at No. 1 singles, but Krause escaped with a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 6-3 win.
NYU (6-0) took courts 2-5 in straight sets before Landells broke up the shutout bid with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Nicole Wuelfing at No. 6 singles.
The Lions open up NJAC play Sunday morning at Rutgers-Camden. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
