EWING, N.J. – Ally Tobler scored her 100
th career goal and
Anna Devlin notched her 100
th career point as the No. 3 TCNJ women's lacrosse team went wild in a first-quarter explosion on the way to a 15-0 rout of visiting Farmingdale State on Saturday.
Tobler racked up five goals and an assist for TCNJ, which pitched its first shutout since a 16-0 blanking of Neumann in the 2019 season opener.
Anna Wright put up a monster performance, racking up a whopping eight caused turnovers to go with three goals and an assist. Devlin finished with two goals and an assist and
Jillian Westerby paired three assists with a goal.
Wright scored less than 30 seconds after the opening draw, and the quick strike was a harbinger of things to come as TCNJ (4-0) rolled up 11 goals in the first quarter alone. Wright tacked on another about a minute later, and the fireworks picked up in earnest around the 9-minute mark.
That's when
Wayden Ay's goal – on an assist from
Sydney Sieja – ignited a stretch of eight goals in under five minutes. The Lions essentially played make-it-take-it as Westerby dominated the draw, and the Rams hardly had the ball in the opening frame.
Tobler got to the century mark on a brilliant individual play, taking a pass from Westerby and maneuvering through traffic for a shot that plugged the top corner of the net to make it 4-0.
Tobler then set up a goal by
Morgan Vaccaro just past the midway point of the frame before Devlin earned her milestone point on a goal assisted by Wright. Devlin became the third Lion already to surpass 100 career points this season, joining Tobler and Wright. Westerby is next up, needing 10 points to hit triple figures.
Vaccaro scored 21 seconds later and Tobler netted back-to-back goals in the next 60 seconds to expand the margin before Westerby made it 10-0 at the 4:09 mark. Goals No. 6-10 for the Lions came in a span of just over two minutes. Wright then capped the explosive first quarter with a goal in the closing seconds.
Tobler and
Natalie Berry scored in the second quarter, and Devlin and Tobler did so in the third to finish off the scoring.
Sabrina Phillips (6), Devlin (4), and Westerby (4) combined to lead the Lions to a 15-3 advantage in draw controls, and Wright paced the pride with four ground balls. Phillips added four caused turnovers of her own, and Ay had three grounders.
Wright's eight caused turnovers were the most by a TCNJ player since Elizabeth Morrison racked up 10 against Middlebury in 2018.
Julia Charest made one first-half save and
Hailey Wexler added three in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The Lions continue a lengthy homestand against No. 22 Hamilton on Wednesday.
