3/11/2023 5:39:00 PM

ROANOKE, VA.- Domenic Difrancescantonio and Nick Sacco both finished fourth Saturday at the NCAA Championships as the All-American duo put a bow on a pair of fantastic seasons.

Difrancescantonio faced off against Ethan Harsted of Wheaton College in the semifinal bout. After a scoreless first period, each wrestler had a takedown and an escape to knot them back at three each. In the third, Harsted's two takedowns proved to be the difference-maker as he won 7-5. From there, he moved to the consolation bracket where he was matched up with top-seeded Zayren Terukina of Wartburg. Difrancesacantonio made quick work of his opponent, pinning him in just 46 seconds to move on to the third-place matchup against Jacob Reid from Ohio Northern. After nearly being pinned in the first period, Reed took a reversal and transitioned into a pin as Difrancescantonio fell at the 3:46 mark to finish fourth.

The senior finished his final season as a Lion with a 17-5 record along with a second-place regional finish.

Sacco had a similar day to his teammate, falling in the semifinal match to no. 1 seeded Nathan Lackman of Rhode Island College in a 7-3 decision. After being moved to the consolation bracket, he had another semifinal match ahead of him against Cooper Willis from Ausburg. The first period saw each wrestler get a takedown and escape from said takedown. The second period went in favor of Sacco as he picked up an escape. In the third, Nick nearly pinned Willis and had another point added on for riding time to take the 7-4 decision win. In the third place matchup against Noah Leisgang of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Sacco was able to escape when necessary but was unable to come up with the big takedown to ultimately win as Leisgang won 3-2 by decision.

Sacco finished up his sophomore campaign with a 26-5 record as well as his first Mideast Region title.
