Hochheiser Lifts Baseball Past FDU-Florham

AUBURNDALE, FL.- The TCNJ baseball team wrapped up their spring break trip with a 4-3 walk-off win in 12 innings over FDU-Florham on Saturday. Coming up with the big hit for the Lions was sophomore Zach Hochheiser.

Jackson Malouf started the game for the Lions on the mound and put together a great showing. He went seven innings, striking out eight with six hits, two walks and one earned run. The Devils didn't cross that lone run off Malouf until the seventh.

A fielder's choice by Justin Marcario in the fourth inning scored Ryan Goodall to put the Lions on the scoreboard first. In the sixth, TCNJ wanted more as Ryan Goodall sent a missile of a double to center field, scoring Mike LaGravenis and moving the lead to 2-0.

In the seventh, each team would trade runs as FDU scored on a single to right field to bring themselves within one. In the home half, an Andrew Fernandez sacrifice fly scored Jack Felipe and brought the margin back to two.

In the top of the eighth, the Devils were able to tie the game up at three with a pair of hits and running on wild pitches.

Both teams went scoreless in the ninth to give us free baseball.

Stepping onto the mound in the tenth and ultimately earning the win was junior Alec Schwartz. Schwartz pitched the 10th, 11th and 12th with authority, striking out four and allowing four hits. Schwartz did a fantastic job of holding the Devils off and giving the Lions multiple chances to win in the home half.

With Marcario on second and Goodall on third in the home half of the 12th, Hochheiser came up huge with a pinch-hit RBI walk-off single through the left side to score Goodall and win the game for TCNJ.

Goodall led the Lions at the plate on Saturday, going 2 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Chris Reeder and Jack Haynes also had multi-hit games Saturday morning.

TCNJ baseball will head back up north this weekend and prepare to head out to Chester, PA. for a matchup with Widener University on Wednesday, March 22nd starting at 3:30 PM.
