CHESTER, PA.- In its first game back from the spring break trip, the TCNJ baseball team fell to the Pride of Widener by a score of 17-9.
 
The Lions came out firing in the top of the first with three runs on three hits. Justin Marcario hit the first run in for TCNJ with an RBI infield single, scoring Ryan Goodall. Jack Felipe followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Chris Reeder. A two-out Michael Schumacher single to center would score Justin Marcario and extend the TCNJ lead to 3-0.
 
After a scoreless first, Widener erased the deficit in the second with three runs of its own on three hits, including a two-run homer to left center field.
 
The Lions were blanked at the plate for the next four frames as Widener started to run away with the game, scoring three more runs in the third and another in the fourth.
 
The Lions put together a spirited last-ditch effort at the plate, scoring a total of six runs on eight hits across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. This included a Goodall solo shot over the left field fence in the seventh and a grand slam in the eighth, once again to left, to get the visitors within 15-9.
 
The two home runs for Goodall marks the fifth multi-homerun game for the junior. This also brings his career home run total to 15, moving him up to tied for 17^th on the all-time list.
 
Though the Lions tried to creep back in, the Pride answered emphatically, scoring 10 runs on 10 hits over those same three innings and held TCNJ scoreless in the ninth to secure the 17-9 win.
 
Goodall, Marcario, Schumacher, and Andrew Fernandez all had multi-hit games on Wednesday and accounted for all nine runs batted in.
 
TCNJ is right back out on the diamond tomorrow as the Lions continue their road trip to Haverford with a matchup against the Fords at 3:30 PM.
