Lacrosse Races Past Greyhounds

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's lacrosse team tuned up for a highly anticipated showdown with a dazzling display of offensive dominance on Tuesday, firing on all cylinders en route to a 21-4 rout of visiting Moravian.

Ally Tobler, Anna Devlin, and Jillian Westerby all had hat-tricks in the first half for the Lions (7-0), who convincingly remained unbeaten ahead of Thursday's titanic tilt with top-ranked and reigning national champion Middlebury.

Tobler started the scoring about three minutes in, netting the first of her four first-half markers on a feed from Westerby. Just 43 seconds later, Westerby picked up a loose ball and scored her first goal of the day, and 49 seconds after that TCNJ had found the back of the net again as Devlin took a pass from Natalie Berry and fired home for a 3-0 lead inside of five minutes gone.

The Greyhounds (4-4) got on the board next, but the Lions tacked on four more before the end of the opening frame. Westerby scored on a beautiful give-and-go feed from Morgan Vaccaro, and just 11 seconds later Devlin won the draw and passed ahead to a streaking Tobler in stride for another goal.

Westerby polished off a first-quarter hat-trick before Tobler picked up her own rebound and scored to extend the advantage to 7-1 and complete her own hat-trick in the opening stanza.

The onslaught continued in earnest in the second quarter, with Tobler capitalizing on one of a litany of Moravian clearing turnovers as Wright hit her behind the scrambling defense. Devlin then ripped home a free-position bouncer, and Larissa Hatzold did the same for her first goal of the year.

Wayden Ay's first goal of the day made it 11-2 before Devlin tallied another goal to reach running clock status with a double-digit margin at the 5:22 mark. Anna Wright's free-position conversion pushed the lead to 13-2 at the break.

TCNJ was ruthless in the first half, scoring on its first five shots and seven of its first 10. The Lions finished 13-for-22 on shots in the first half and harassed the Greyhounds into a 3-for-10 effort on clears.

The Lions continued to roll in the second half, scoring the first three goals of the third and the last five of the fourth around a pair of Moravian markers.

Tobler led the way with a season-high six goals, while Westerby matched her career highs in goals (5) and points (7). Wright finished with three goals and a pair of assists and Devlin had three goals and an assist to go with 10 draw controls, her second straight game with double figures in that category.

Westerby's huge day put her on the cusp of 100 career points, just two away from the century mark. Wright is now seven goals from 100.

TCNJ outshot the Greyhounds, 35-10, and held an 18-10 advantage on the draw.

Julia Charest had two saves in the first half and Hailey Wexler matched her with two in the second half.

TCNJ gets its biggest test of the regular season on Thursday as the undefeated reigning national champions come to town. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
