Baseball Downed by No. 2 Seagulls

EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ Baseball team was defeated on Thursday by No. 2 Salisbury University by a score of 21-4.

This one got away from the Lions early as the Seagulls put up six runs in the top of the first inning on five hits and one error.

TCNJ cut the lead from six to five in the bottom of the first as they put up one run on one hit. Jack O'Donnell started the inning off getting plunked by a 3-2 pitch which Ryan Goodall followed up with a four pitch walk. A Zach Hochheiser single to left field with one out scored O'Donnell.

In the top of the second, Drew Lukomski-LaPolice took over pitching duties for the Lions. He had a very solid outing, pitching two innings and giving up no runs on two hits, two strikeouts and a hit-by-pitch.

Salisbury had an inning like the first in the top half of the fourth as they put up five runs on hits.

Andrew Fernandez hit his second homerun of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning, this time a two-run bomb over the trees in left field. Justin Marcario led the inning off with a single up the middle and scored on the homerun.

Jack Tinkelenberg came in to pitch in the fifth and shoved a scoreless frame on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

The Seagulls then put up another five-spot in the top of the fifth on three hits and one error.

In the bottom half of the sixth, sophomore Jason Wasko showed up in a big way in his first at-bat of the season. With two outs and one on, Wasko sent a shot to deep right center, earning himself a stand-up RBI double. Sebastian JnoBaptiste scored on the play.

In the seventh, Matt Santos put up a scoreless inning, retiring the Seagulls in order.

Salisbury put up three more runs in the eighth and two in the ninth and held TCNJ scoreless after the sixth to secure the win.

TCNJ baseball is back on the Diamond on Saturday, April 1st as they begin NJAC play with a doubleheader on the road against the Gothic Knights of NCJU starting at 11:30 AM.
