WAYNE, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team lost in their makeup game today from Thursday to William Paterson by a score of 12-7.
The Lions and Pioneers traded runs in the first, with the Pioneers taking the edge with two runs to TCNJ's one. Michael Doran produced the run in the first with an RBI single into center field which scored Justin Marcario, who led the game off with a walk.
William Paterson put up another two runs in the second on three hits and no errors to extend their lead to three.
In the fourth, TCNJ cut the lead to one scoring two runs on three hits and one error. Zach Weiner sent a double to left field which scored Michael Schumacher. Jack O'Donnell came up the very next at-bat and hit a single to left field, scoring Weiner and cutting the Pioneer lead to just one.
In the bottom half, Willy P took a run back on three hits and no errors to make the score 5-3.
The Lions scavenged another run in the top of the sixth when Marcario scored Schumacher on a fielder's choice, bringing the lead again to one run. Schumacher led the inning off with a single, advanced to second on a Weiner walk and made his way to third via a sac-bunt.
TCNJ broke through in the seventh on a Sebastian JnoBaptiste three-run bomb over the fence in left center field, scoring himself, Doran and Chris Reeder to take a 7-5 lead.
In the ensuing half inning, the Pioneers scored seven runs on five hits and one error to take the lead right back in commanding fashion. They managed to hold the Lions scoreless in the eighth and ninth to seal the 12-7 win.
Weiner and JnoBaptistse led the Lions at the plate on Monday as Weiner was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored while Baptiste was 1-for-3 with the three-run homer.
TCNJ baseball takes the field once again on Tuesday as they travel to Reading, PA. for an out of conference matchup with the Golden Wolves of Alvernia starting at 3:30 PM.
