EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team swept Stockton on Wednesday to finish with yet another conference regular season record.
With the victory, the Lions (13-4, 6-0 NJAC) officially locked up the No. 1 seed in the conference and will face off against either Ramapo or Rutgers-Camden in the semifinals round of next week's NJAC playoffs.
NJCU will secure the second seed while Stockton (11-4, 4-2 NJAC) will slot third.
In doubles play, the No. 1 court duo of
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells took the victory, 8-3. In No. 2 (
Alexa Vasile/
Chase Eisenberg) and No. 3 (
Aira Abalos/
Anusha Rangu) courts, the Lions cruised to 8-0 sweeps.
With her victory, Rangu officially reached the 50 career doubles win milestone in her Lions career.
In Singles action, Roarty win her No. 1 matchup one-sidedly, giving up just a lone game in both sets to win 6-1, 6-1. In No. 4 singles, Rangu dominated her matchup in similar fashions to secure the victory.
No. 2 and No. 6 singles saw Abalos and Landells each nearly secure a double bagel victory. Abalos lost just one game in the second set of the match, while Landell conceded one game in the first set.
Vasile won a close first set in No. 3 court, 6-4, before cruising to a 6-2 set two victory to sweep her matchup.
No. 5 Singles saw Eisenberg fall behind early to lose set one, 1-6. However she would win the second set 6-3 to force the third-set super tiebreaker, in which she would cruise to a 10-0 victory.
The Lions will close out the season this Friday by hosting SUNY New Paltz. The semifinals round of the playoffs is set to begin next Wednesday at the TCNJ Tennis Complex.
