Baseball Bests (RV) Arcadia on the Road

GLENSIDE, PA.- The TCNJ baseball team picked up a big non-conference win on Tuesday at Arcadia in dominant fashion, winning 16-4

Sophomore Jack Marchese earned his first win of 2023 on Tuesday after his solid performance on the mound. In his outing, he went five and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks with a strikeout.

The Lions pounced on run scoring opportunities early as they picked up three runs in the top of the first on two hits and one error. A Chris Reeder single up the middle got the party started for TCNJ as Mike LaGravenis and Justin Marcario came in to score. An error and a walk set up Sebastian JnoBaptiste to drive in the third run of the inning on a bases loaded walk, scoring Reeder.

The Knights took one run back in the bottom half of the second inning on two hits to cut the TCNJ lead to two.

TCNJ began to extend in the third, scoring another three runs on three hits and bringing the score to 6-1. A Jack Haynes double to right center field scored JnoBaptiste and Jack Felipe. Reeder then recorded his third RBI of the day on a single to right field to score Haynes.

Arcadia then scored another run in the bottom half of the third on two hits to move within four.

Finding the answer immediately was Felipe in the top of the fourth with a single down the right field line to bring in Ryan Goodall, who led the inning off with a double.

In the fifth and sixth, TCNJ failed to score as the Knights inched closer with a run in each of the innings to bring the score to 7-4.

With two outs in the fifth, Michael Silver came in for two and a third innings of scoreless relief. He also did not allow a hit while striking out two batters and hitting one.

In the last three innings, the Lion offense showed up in a big way with nine runs in those three.

Five runs were scored in the seventh starting with Reeder plating his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day on a single to left field and scoring LaGravenis and Haynes. Goodall with career hit no. 99 drove in Marcario and Reeder with a single to right field. The next batter, Felipe would reach by error resulting in Andrew Fernandez scoring.

In the eighth, the Lions were able to put up three runs without scoring a hit as they recorded those runs on a bases loaded walk followed by two wild pitches.

A Haynes sacrifice fly in the ninth scored Goodall and plated the 16th run of the game for TCNJ, marking their most runs scored this season.

Michael Doran came in to pitch in the ninth and gave up no runs and one hit, sealing the win for TCNJ.

Five Lions had multi-hit games on Tuesday including Reeder, Goodall, Felipe, JnoBaptiste and Haynes. Goodall looks to surpass the 100-career hit mark on Thursday.

TCNJ Baseball has a massive weekend ahead of them as they start it all off with a matchup on the road against Rutgers-Camden on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 3:30.
