Ay Surpasses 100 Grounders in No. 6 Lacrosse Romp at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J – The No. 6 TCNJ lacrosse team closed the regular season with a 22-1 victory at Ramapo on Saturday afternoon. Senior Wayden Ay eclipsed the 100-ground ball mark for her career in the fourth quarter. Five different Lions recorded a hat trick in the contest, led by Anna Wright's six goals.

The scoring came in waves, as did the shots. TCNJ outshot Ramapo, 35-1, and the Roadrunners didn't record a shot after the first quarter. That shot netted Ramapo's only goal a minute into the game, and it gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

From that point forward, it was the Lions' game. TCNJ responded with nine goals in the first quarter, with Ally Tobler scoring three of her five goals. She also added an assist and four draw controls.

Anna Devlin's goal with 12:58 left in the second quarter put the game into the mercy rule. She finished with four goals, two assists, five draw controls and three ground balls. Jillian Westerby and Katherine Naiburg each had three goals to round out the TCNJ hat-trick attack. Westerby had a team-high six draw controls.

TCNJ led, 15-1, at halftime and 17-1 after three quarters. Veronika O'Donnell added a goal and an assist.

Ay was held off the scoresheet until the fourth period, when she scooped three grounders to reach triple digits for her career. She's the defending NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and a 2022 Third Team All-America selection. She was also named a Preseason All-America this year by US Lacrosse Magazine.

TCNJ will now host fourth-seeded Kean in an NJAC Tournament semifinal on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions defeated the Cougars, 14-2, in a lightning-shortened three-quarter match on April 15.
