EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis enjoyed a Good Friday double-dip this afternoon, notching sweeps of Drew and NJAC foe Kean at the Tennis Complex.
The Lions (9-3, 2-0) overcame some close matches against Drew before dominating the Cougars to an extreme degree, not conceding so much as a single game across all nine courts.
Chase Eisenberg and
Alexa Vasile were 8-3 winners over Melina Christodoulou and Sanne Bloemendaal at No. 2 doubles, as were
Aira Abalos and
Anusha Rangu against Courtney Bresler and Danielle DelRosso at No. 3.
On the top court,
Charlotte Roarty and
Jenny Landells matched up against Mary Kalorin and Sofiya Lebedeva, against whom they had picked up an 8-4 win in the Round of 16 at the ITA Northeast Regional championship. This time was closer, but the end result was the same, with the Lions' pair edging out a one-break pro set, 8-6.
Abalos (No. 2), Vasile (No. 3), and
Aamora Coronado-Luz (No. 6) were runaway winners in singles play, each surrendering just two games. For Coronado-Luz, the singles win was the first of her career.
Landells was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over DelRosso at No. 5, leaving a pair of third-set super breakers to wrap up the tilt.
Rangu shook off Bloemendaal 6-0, 6-7 (5), 10-6 at No. 4 singles before Roarty and Lebedeva went down to the wire on the No. 1 court. Roarty got the best of a nip-and-tuck thriller, edging Lebedeva 6-1, 4-6, 11-9.
With the same lineup against Kean, TCNJ won all three doubles matches, 8-0, and all six singles courts by 6-0, 6-0 scorelines.
Roarty registered her 50th career singles victory with her double-bagel against the Cougars.
The Lions kick off a busy week – featuring five matches – with a non-conference matchup against Haverford on Wednesday.
