EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ Softball team will take on Manhattanville for the first game of the Regionals round in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, as revealed on the NCAA Selection Show Monday afternoon. The Lions will head out to Virginia Beach, where top seeded host Virginia Wesleyan are located.
Similar to the NJAC Tournament, the Regionals round of the National tournament will see a double elimination style bracket in which the Lions will need to be the last of the four regionals teams standing to advance onto the Super Regionals round. Alongside Manhattanville, TCNJ's region also consists of both John Jay and No. 13 Virginia Wesleyan.
The Lions enter the tournament as newly crowned NJAC Champions, having won their third conference title since 2019 this past Sunday. The blue and gold defeated Ramapo, 4-0, to clinch the title and the automatic qualifier bid. TCNJ are also in the midst of a massive 14-game winning streak that has been capped off by a perfect 4-0 run through the NJAC Tournament.
The Valiants of Manhattanville enter the tournament with a 38-5 record. The Valiants went a perfect 18-0 conference record to close out the regular season before ultimately saw them win the Skyline Conference championship against Farmingdale State. The two teams were originally scheduled to play each other at Dr. June Walker Field during the early portions of the regular season, before weather delays canceled the doubleheader series.
The regional round will officially kick off on Thursday, May 18th.
