EWING, N.J. – The No. 25 TCNJ women's soccer team played all 90 minutes of regulation to a 2-2 tie in a scintillating showdown with No. 4 ranked Johns Hopkins on Wednesday night.
The Lions (3-1-1) have played two Top-10 opponents in the first five games with No. 4 Hopkins (3-1-1) and No. 7 William Smith.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions struck first in the 10th minute that started with a corner from Emma Pascarella and was passed off the head of Ava Curtis to the head of Lindsay O'Keefe who buried it in the back of the net.
- Hopkins found the equalizer in the 26th minute on a free kick that got past the diving Corinne Byrum and just snuck inside the left post.
- Just one minute later, Hopkin's Katie Sullivan scored her second goal of the game on an insane shot from about 25 yards out that tipped off the extended hands of Byrum and into the top left corner of the net.
- Rachel Burkhard scored the lone goal of the second half between both teams on a ridiculous corner kick that bent its way into the back of the net.
NOTES
- These teams also played to a 2-2 draw two years ago in Baltimore, when TCNJ came in ranked No. 1 and Johns Hopkins was No. 2
- O'Keefe scored her first goal of the season on Pascarella's fourth and Curtis' second assist.
- TCNJ had another chance in the 24th minute on an Allie O'Keefe free kick that nearly deflected off Ella Van Dine but was saved by the Hopkins goaltender.
- Hopkins put Byrum to the test late in the second half with three shots in the last five minutes of play. A couple of shots sent Byrum diving and leaping, but none got past the junior.
- The Lions also had some chances late that could have taken the lead. Some spectacular saves from the Hopkins Goalkeeper kept TCNJ from regaining the lead for the first time since the ten-minute mark.
