No. 25 Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Hood in Dominant 4-0 Victory

FREDERICK, MD. – The No. 25 TCNJ Women's Soccer team closed out the week with a dominant 4-0 road victory over Hood on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (4-1-1) controlled the entire game on the host team's side of the field by recording 28 total shots and 8 corner kicks on offense, while defensively limiting the Blazers (2-3-1) to just merely three shot attempts and a lone corner kick.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The blue and gold struck first in the 10th minute on a penalty kick from Victoria D'Imperio, who launched the ball to the right side of the goal and past the reach of Hood's goalie Brenna Ellenberger. The junior was awarded the kick after being fouled from behind by a Blazers defender when already within the box.
  • In the 32nd minute, Ava Curtis would double the Lions' lead with a penalty kick attempt of her own, with her kick attacking the left post to avoid Ellenberger's grasp. Curtis was fouled in a similarly aggressive manner by a Hood defender while inside the box.
  • The Lions struck again nearly nine minutes later, when a stellar header from junior Greta Bush on a corner kick assist by Alyssa Alfano gave the Lions a comfortable 3-0 lead entering the half.
  • Late in the second half, freshman Taylor Bielan knocked in an excellent tap-in goal on a perfect cross by Jess DiMatteo from the right side.
NOTES
  • With the Lions defense keeping Hood off the scoreboard the entire game, all four of TCNJ's wins in the 2023 season have come in shutout fashion.
  • D'Imperio finished the game with a team-high six shots and four shots on goal
  • Bush's goal marked the first of her career with the Blue and Gold
  • With her assist, DiMatteo recorded her first career collegiate point with the Lions
  • Emma Pascarella finished the match with four shots, one of which was on goal
  • The Lions once again split goalie duties at halftime, with sophomore Corinne Byrum playing the entire first half before freshman Bella Norman took over in the second.
  • Hood finished the match with zero of their three shots on goal
