Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Eric Yang

No. 14 Women’s Soccer Blows Out Pioneers, 8-0

WAYNE, N.J. – The No. 14 TCNJ women's soccer team recorded their fourth consecutive shutout victory with an 8-0 road victory against William Paterson on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (7-1-1, 2-0 NJAC) dominated the Pioneers (2-4-3, 1-2) in all facets of the game, putting up 30 shots as a team (18 on goal), while not allowing even a single shot attempt from the home team the entire game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions struck first in the ninth minute of the match on a terrific header from Victoria D'Imperio off a corner kick assist from Emma Pascarella.
  • In the 18th minute, Pascarella once again connected on a second TCNJ score, this time finding super senior Lindsay O'Keefe in transition from the right side. O'Keefe extended the lead on a crossing shot that escaped the William Paterson goalie's reach and into the back left side of the net.
  • TCNJ entered the first half with a stat line as dominant as it looked for the eye test, recording 14 total shots on offense while shutting out William Paterson completely after controlling the ball exclusively on the Pioneers' side of the field.
  • The Blue and Gold piled on early in the second half, doubling their lead in an 80 second span as Sophie Vieira and O'Keefe both connected on corner kicks from D'Imperio and Pascarella, respectively.
  • Less than two minutes later, in the 52nd minute, D'Imperio would notch the fifth goal of the game for TCNJ off the rebound of an O'Keefe shot attempt that was saved.
  • In the 58th minute, Rachel Burkhard once again recorded an Olimpico score on a corner kick for the sixth goal of the match. The junior's first such score earlier in the season against Johns Hopkins landed her an appearance on the ESPN Top-10.
  • Exactly 30 seconds later, D'Imperio secured her second hat trick of the season by once again scoring off the rebound, this time off a Pascarella shot that was saved by the Pioneers goalie.
  • Junior Allie O'Keefe rounded out the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
NOTES
  • The first half goals by D'Imperio and O'Keefe each represented the 25th of their respective collegiate careers.
  • D'Imperio finished with three goals and an assist to extend her goal-scoring streak to four games. During that stretch, she has two hat-tricks and has posted eight goals and a pair of assists.
  • This is the second time that the Lions have completely shut out their opponent by not allowing a single shot attempt. The other occurrence came against Berry College in a game the Lions won 4-0.
  • The shutout marks the seventh total on the year for the Lions.
  • 27 of the team's 28 players all made an appearance in today's match.
