Higgins Guides No. 13 Men’s Swim to 166-96 Victory Over No. 25 Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. — The No. 13 TCNJ men's swimming and diving team took home a dominant 166-96 dual meet victory over No. 25 Rowan on Saturday afternoon.
 
Led by a pair of dominant individual event wins from junior Ryan Higgins, the Lions (6-2) finished the meet winning 10 total events and securing two sweeps on the day.
 
GOLDEN FINISHES
  • Starting off the meet, the Lions' 200 medley relay team of Andrew Kidchob, Ryan VanDeVeen, James McChesney and Dixon Kahler won with a combined time of 1:31.25.
  • Sophomore Gavin Formon began his day by securing a win in the 1000 free with a top time of 9:41.25. Formon followed up by leading the sweep in the 500 free with his time of 4:43.11.
  • Sophomore Brian Bull finished as the runner up in the 500 free by clocking a 4:44.28, and junior Lukas Blach rounded out the sweep by touching third with a mark of 4:45.34.
  • Junior Ryan VanDeVeen won the 100 breast with the fastest time at 56.45.
  • In the 50 free, senior James McChesney cruised past the field with a sprint of 20.67, getting the top place by seven-tenth of a second. The NCAA Champion also secured a win in the 100 fly by clocking a 48.87, which won by nearly 2 seconds.
  • The first win on the day for Higgins came in the 200 back, in which the junior dominated with a swim of 1:48.18, securing the top place by nearly three seconds. Higgins also led a lopsided sweep in the 200 IM, winning the event by exactly four seconds with his time of 1:51.71. On the day, Higgins also secured a new personal best in the 100 back, placing third with a time of 50.68.
  •  Junior Shawn Kushner finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.71, and Formon took  third by clocking in at 1:58.81.
  • The 200 breast saw Kushner clinch the event win with a top time of 2:03.21.
  • TCNJ closed out the meet on top by clinching the 400 free relay win. The relay quartet of McChesney, Blach, Richard Park and Kahler finished on top with a time of 3:04.02.
 
RPI KUMPF INVITE
  • Competing separately on the boards, the Lions were led by junior Ethan Weiss, who won the 1 meter with a top score of 284.50. Weiss also placed third in the 3 meters with a score of 281.80.
  • Fellow junior Michael Wu took fourth in the 3 meters after a mark of 263.85.
 
UP NEXT
The Lions will close out the dual meet portion of the schedule next Saturday, when the blue and gold hosts Montclair State for Senior Day. Start time is scheduled for 1 PM.
