Field Hockey Falls Late to Rowan

10/16/2024 7:28:00 PM

Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. – The TCNJ field hockey team had its five-game shutout streak snapped at Rowan after the Profs scored two late fourth-quarter goals to win 2-1 in a key NJAC matchup on Wednesday night.

TCNJ (8-5, 2-1) struck first midway through the third quarter after the Lions went coast-to-coast with two long passes, the second of which found Rayhanah Ahmed at the top of the circle. She moved in on a one-on-one with the Prof goalie from about 10 yards out with the ball sliding to the left after the pair nearly collided. Julia Neff corralled the loose ball from the left of the cage and guided it into an unguarded net for a 1-0 TCNJ lead.

Rowan (7-7, 2-0) tied the contest with just under four minutes to play after a reverse from the right side deep in the circle found its way to the left side of the net. Less than two minutes later, the Profs converted a penalty stroke shot to go in front for good.

The first half was played close to the vest by both teams, especially the second quarter that saw just one corner and no shots. The first quarter favored the Lions with a 2-1 shot and 2-0 corner advantage.

TCNJ opened things up in the third quarter with advantages in shots (4-1) and corners (3-1), but the Profs came to life in the fourth and came close to scoring just prior to their game-tying goal after back-to-back corners produced quality opportunities.
