EWING, N.J. – Claire Engebreth scored with 3:19 left in overtime to lift the TCNJ field hockey team to a critical 2-1 victory over Stockton in an NJAC grinder on Wednesday afternoon.
Engebreth's golden goal, off a corner and assisted by
Rayhanah Ahmed, kept the Lions (10-5, 4-1) on track for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament.
Isabel Maher's first-period goal, off a flurry of shots in front of the cage, had stood as the game's lone tally until the Ospreys (8-7, 1-2) equalized with just over four minutes to play and sent the game into an extra session.
Stockton had the best chance in overtime before the winner, but
Brigitte Racey was able to make a leaping save on a reverse attempt by Carlee Thompson, and the Lions survived a corner as an Osprey fired wide.
The Lions won it a minute later, when Maher inserted the corner. Ahmed intercepted a clearing attempt and slid a pass to the center of the circle for Engebreth, who ripped a laser of a shot under the Stockton goalie and into the cage for the walk-off winner.
