GLASSBORO, N.J. – The TCNJ field hockey team came up on the short end of another tight NJAC championship game at Rowan on Saturday night, when the Profs broke a scoreless stalemate early in the fourth quarter and held on for a 1-0 victory.
Mia Foti's lone tally just 1:10 into the final frame was all Rowan needed to claim its fourth consecutive conference title, including three in a row over the Lions. The Profs won their 10
th straight game overall and edged out a second one-goal victory against TCNJ this fall to clinch the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The field will be revealed Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
Rowan (14-7) held the Lions without a shot, but the visitors managed to take the game to the last 15 minutes with a chance to win. Foti dampened that hope with a fortuitous goal, knocking a deflected pass out of the air and into the back of the cage to put the home side on top.
Brigitte Racey made two more saves to keep the lead from expanding, but TCNJ failed to generate anything on attack and succumbed to a third consecutive runner-up finish.
