EWING, N.J. – The No. 10 TCNJ lacrosse team cruised to a 20-2 victory over Johnson & Wales on Saturday, taking advantage of its first sunny game of the season.
Ally Tobler put up five points – including the 200
th of her career – to match
Marissa Lucca for the team lead for the balanced Lions, who also got four goals from
Madison Wernik and three goals and an assist out of
Natalie Berry.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It took TCNJ all of 13 seconds to get on the board, with Lucca finding the back of the cage right off the opening draw, and the onslaught hardly stopped there
- Lucca, Wernik, and Morgan Vaccaro all converted free-position opportunities in a span of just over two minutes to open up a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter
- After JWU got on the board, Tobler marked her milestone moment with a laser-beam free-position shot to the low left corner of the net with 3:21 left in the first quarter
- Berry deposited her own eight-meter effort, and 15 seconds later Wernik scored an unconventional goal when she bobbled Tobler's pass but managed to swat the bouncing ball into the back of the cage to make it 7-1
- The Wildcats scored the first goal of the second quarter to get within 7-2, but it was all Lions from there. After Tobler scored on a feed from Lucca, CJ Kole netted a free-position tally and Berry tallied a player-up marker
- After Tobler's third goal of the half, Berry found Kira Sides for a goal to make it 12-2 and start the running clock with 7:44 left in the stanza
- Lucca and Tobler chalked up a goal apiece before the end of the period as TCNJ took a commanding 14-2 lead into the break
- Wernik polished off her hat-trick with a free-position goal early in the third
- Veronica Campbell, Kole, and Berry all found the back of the cage in the third
- Wernik made it a four-goal day with a goal early in the fourth and Lucca capped the scoring with 4:32 to go on an assist from Campbell
STANDOUT LIONS
- Tobler netted four goals and added an assist, and also had a game-high five draw controls
- Lucca matched Tobler with four goals and a helper
- Wernik's four goals were a career high, and just one less than her previous career total
- Berry recorded her first hat-trick of the season
- Cole scored two goals, while Vaccaro and Campbell each had a goal and an assist
- Kileigh Pfluger turned in a terrific defensive performance, racking up four caused turnovers and three ground balls
- Julia Charest made five saves in the first half and Hailey Wexler had two in the second half

- The Lions were a perfect 16-for-16 on clears, while forcing six JWU clearing turnovers
