Baseball Powers Past Widener with 18-8 Victory

EWING, N.J.- It's been quite the start for the TCNJ baseball team, as they improved to 10-0 with an 18 to 8 victory over Widener University on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions (9-0) racked up an impressive 20 hits as a team with all nine starters recording a hit against the Pride (5-9).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lions came out ready to play from the first pitch as they put up five unanswered over the first two innings on four hits and one error in the field.
  • Widener found some life in the third, scoring their first run on a single through the left side.
  • In the fourth, Andrew Fernandez put the Lions up 7-1 with a single to center field to score Justin Marcario and Chris Reeder.
  • The Pride answered back in the top of the fifth with a three-run homerun to left, bringing the tally 7-4.
  • From the fifth to the seventh, it was all TCNJ as they went on to score 10 runs on 10 hits with three errors over the next three innings. This included a pair of bombs from Reeder and Fernandez.
  • After six solid innings of work, starting pitcher Jordan Gray (2-0) handed the ball over to Evan Frank for two innings.
  • Another three-run homerun in the eighth for Widener cut the lead to 10 before Zach Hochheiser closed out the scoring for TCNJ, depositing a homerun over the center-field fence.
  • Freshman Tommy Kohler saw his first action on the mound today for the Blue & Gold as he allowed one run on two hits.
  • Widener put up one more in the ninth, but it was not enough to catch up to the
    Lions.
