Baseball Moves to 11-0 with Commanding Win Over Haverford

EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team notched their 11th straight win, securing a 14-1 victory over Haverford College on Thursday afternoon. The Lions (11-0) put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the first and never looked back as the Fords (9-5) couldn't come back from the deficit.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Fords were retired in order to start the game, TCNJ brought in seven runs on three hits and two errors, jumping out to an early lead.
  • The Lions went right back to work in the second with another two runs on two hits and an error to bring their lead to nine.
    • Jack Haynes shot an RBI single to bring in Fernandez.
    • LaGravenis picked up an RBI for himself with a sac-fly to right, scoring Zach Hochheiser.
  • Hochheiser then knocked in Chris Reeder on a sac-fly of his own in the third inning to put the Lions ahead by double digits.
  • Haverford plated a run in the fourth on an RBI double to right.
  • After a scoreless fourth and fifth for TCNJ, they brought their lead back to 10 in the sixth with an RBI single from LaGravenis to score Haynes. The hit for LaGravenis marked No. 100 for his career at TCNJ.
  • After six innings of one run baseball, Mike Silver took over pitching duties for Dan Merkel. Merkel finished the day giving up one run and six hits with one walk, three strikeouts and three hit batters.
  • TCNJ put up two more in the seventh as Goodall hit his first homer of the year with a towering shot to left-center field.
    • Hochheiser earned his second RBI of the day with a single to right, scoring Fernandez.
  • TCNJ scored one more in the eighth on an error before Silver closed it out in the ninth, collecting his first save of the season after his three innings of scoreless relief.
