Baseball Falls in Road Matchup at Drew

MADISON, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team lost their second game of the season in a road matchup with Drew University on Monday afternoon by a score of 6-3. The Lions (12-2) had some chances late in the game to claw back but the Rangers (8-7) were able to escape the jams and come out with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Drew found themselves on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second after an error by the Lions led to a pair of unearned runs for the Rangers.
  • The Lions got one back in the fourth to cut the Drew lead in half.
    • After a Chris Reeder single and advancing to second on a balk, Ryan Goodall singled down the left field line to score Reeder.
  • Drew quickly responded in the fourth with a three-run homerun to right-center field, bringing their lead to 5-1.
  • Starting pitcher John DiCostanzo settled in after this, going the next three innings scoreless to give the Lions an opportunity to forge a comeback. He finished his day going seven innings with four earned runs, seven hits, five strikeouts and a walk.
  • TCNJ knocked in another in the seventh after being given some free bases to cut the lead to three. They missed out on what could have been a big inning as they had the bases loaded with only one out.
  • Jack Marchese came in for DiCostanzo in the bottom of the eighth after letting up back-to-back hits.
    • Drew put up one more in the bottom of the eighth on a sac-fly to left field to round out their scoring at six runs.
  • The Lions showed some fight in the final frame with Mike LaGravenis scoring on a Justin Marcario double to left field. However, they were unable to come up with four or more in the ninth as they fell 6-3.

UP NEXT:
  • TCNJ baseball is back on the road on Tuesday afternoon as they're headed to Lancaster, PA. to take on the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall College at 3:30 PM.
