Salisbury Squeezes Past Men's Tennis in Windy Thriller

EWING, N.J. – The No. 22 TCNJ men's tennis team had its bid for an unbeaten regular season dashed by No. 41 Salisbury in a 6-3 defeat on a blustery Saturday afternoon in Ewing.

With the wind whipping throughout, the Sea Gulls won four three-set singles matches and a tiebreaker in doubles to double up the Lions in a tilt that could have easily gone the other way.

FOR THE RECORD
  • Salisbury upped its record to 12-3, while TCNJ is now 11-1
DOUBLES
  • Matthew Michibata and Harrison Maitland-Carter claimed the line doubles point for the Lions, snagging an 8-5 win over Gianluca Beaujon and Jhayden Pappas on the No. 1 court
  • The Sea Gulls won 8-3 at No. 2, bringing the rubber match to the No. 3 court. Aayush Kishore and Asa Wong battled throughout but succumbed to an 8-7 (4) tiebreak defeat at the hands of Aron Bursztyn and Mitchell Desman
SINGLES
  • TCNJ won the only two singles matches that didn't go the distance – a 6-4, 6-1 victory for Michibata over Pappas at No. 1 and a 6-4, 6-0 win for Maitland-Carter against Russell Willenborg at No. 5
  • The other four courts were nail-biters, none more so that Adrian Tsui's 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (4) defeat to Beaujon at No. 2
  • Caleb Brightman outlasted Kishore 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 3

  • In another match that featured a pair of full tiebreak sets, Brett Schuster conceded a 7-6 (1), 6-7 (7), 10-5 decision to Bursztyn at No. 6
UP NEXT
