Baseball Suffers Non-Conference Loss to Arcadia

EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team lost a hard-fought non-conference matchup with a 9-8 finish against Arcadia University on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions (18-14) got out to a 7-2 lead after six innings before the Knights (26-10) came back with seven runs in the last three frames to take the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arcadia found the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to center, putting TCNJ behind 1-0.
  • The Lions took the lead back in the fourth with a pair of runs on one hit to take a 2-1 lead.
  •  A Justin Marcario single to right center in the next inning scored Andrew Woodward and put TCNJ up 3-1.
  • SP John DiCostanzo did a great job of limiting Arcadia in his five innings of work. He came out after the fifth allowing one run on five hits, four strikeouts and no walks.
  • The Knights cut the lead to one in the top of the sixth on two hits, making the tally 3-2 in favor of TCNJ.
  • The Lions kept it rolling in the sixth as they put up four runs on three hits and an error, all with two outs to extend their lead to five runs.
    • A Woodward single to left scored Jack Haynes and marked the first career RBI for the rookie.
    • After a Woodward steal, Mike LaGravenis singled up the middle, driving in both Woodward and Jack O'Donnell. A Marcario single through the right side scored LaGravenis after he stole second.
  • The Knights began to chip away in the seventh, scoring a run on a double to right center to bring the score to 7-3.
  • In the eighth, Arcadia erupted for six runs on five hits and two TCNJ errors to take a 9-7 lead.
  • Marcario knocked in his third RBI of the day in the bottom of the eighth, driving in LaGravenis and bringing the Lions within a run.
  • TCNJ couldn't find the answer in the ninth as the Knights held on for the one-run victory.
